Let us know if you're looking for a specific song
Posted by DJ Pondo on August 05, 19103 at 04:26:23:

Did you hear some new song breaking "HOT" on your local radio station? If you don't see it on Prevue Promo, remember to let us know about it! You can e-mail or call Sam or DJPondo, and we'll try to track it down for you. If we can find it (we usually can) we'll put it on one the next CD's. Thanks for your input!

Re: “Notes” Field in the Prevue Promo Database

Original Message:

D, In the notes section of your DB, you have stuff like "EDIT" by itself. What does that mean? I assume it means, Differ from album.. or maybe the Radio Cut.. Thanks..

: The information in the "NOTES" field of the database varies with the product. Generally, all information matches the comments that appear on your tray card for each CD. Comments like, "EDIT" "RADIO EDIT" "REMIX" etc., are provided by the Record Companies. We include them on the tray cards and in the db to help our Members identify the various re-issues of particular songs. An "EDIT" is usually done by the Record Companies themselves. They may shorten or lengthen a song. They may change the tempo, change the lyrics, improve or eliminate the accompaniment, or even add another Artist to the track. Then they send the resulting track to Prevue Promo, along with the “EDIT” comment. And, we put it on the CD the way they send it to us. Comments like, "LYRIC(S!!!!!)" and "LYRIC CONTENT" are added by Prevue Promo to alert Members about possible foul language or undesirable subject matter in the song. We do our best to find the problems. But, it's still up to the Member to review EVERY track before playing it on the air. Comments like "Clean Version" may still appear after a "LYRIC" warning. In those cases, the words "Clean Version" etc. were supplied by the Record Company. So, We put them in quotes "" to indicate that "Clean Version" is just part of the song designation. You will also find comments like, "Novelty" "Patriotic" "Christmas" etc. in the NOTES field. We do that so Members can do a search for songs with those designations just by typing a word in the NOTES field and clicking SEARCH. Try typing the word, "HUMOR" into the NOTES field and then click SEARCH. You'll find that we currently have 25 songs that we thought were humorous. I think it’s most helpful around Christmas time. So, that's how NOTES works!

Thanks.. that's pretty much what I needed to know.. :) I was unsure where the notes "came" from.. so that's good info to know.

Breakbeats - Crossovers - New Music - etc.
Posted by DJ Pondo on June 21, 19103 at 03:40:35:

Lots of new product! I hope everyone is taking some time to listen to some of the super new tracks we're receiving. It's exciting for me to discover something new and playable on every new disc. Some of the tracks work really well together. And, some of the shorter tracks are just perfect for segue breakbeat samples. I can't remember a time since I started DJ'ing when there was this much great music around. There are many cross-over possibilities in all formats. If you discover any tracks that you love putting next to each other, or if you think they go together well...Please remember to give me a shout. Check out Jay-Z's "hidden" track, "STOP" on the 1117 series CD's. It's a natural breakbeat track, and it fits in with "Excuse Me Miss" "La La" "21 Questions/Answers", etc. really well. Peace! Pondo

AV8 Records On-Board
Posted by DJ Pondo on May 26, 19103 at 07:07:22:

We're happy to announce that Prevue Promo is now receiving product from AV8 Records. AV8 is well-known for their Hip-Hop & Breakbeat tracks (Crooklyn Clan, Fatman Scoop, Stik-E & The Hoodz, etc). We anticipate that AV8 will provide us with all their new releases, beginning with "AYO" by Fatman Scoop & Crooklyn Clan. Members subscribing to this genre of music will receive this track on one of the CD's in the first mailing in June. Sam & Pondo

New Services? Maybe?? Members Please Respond!!
Posted by DJ Pondo on May 24, 19103 at 09:02:05:

Are there any Members interested in Prevue Promo producing any of the following Extra CD's?

- Monthly or Bi-monthly Latin compilation CD
- Monthly or Bi-monthly Dance Remix compilation CD
- Monthly or Bi-monthly Smooth Jazz compilation CD
- Any other suggestions??

Sam would need quite a few interested Members (at least 25) to make it worthwhile. But, he'll do it if enough of us are interested. - Pondo

Remember to Prevue Songs!!! BEFORE you air them!!
Posted by DJ Pondo on May 19, 19103 at 08:16:56:

The amount of product we receive continues to increase. There are several tracks that contain questionable lyrics & foreign lyrics. Just remember, it's the programmer's (the DJ's, MD's, PD's, GM's, etc.) job to make sure you're not airing anything offensive. So, always remember:
LISTEN TO ALL PRODUCT BEFORE YOU AIR IT!!
(Certain words, phrases, sounds and lyrics can be ambiguous and/or covert. And there's NEVER a guarantee that we'll find every nasty word or thought in a song! So, Protect Yourself and your Audience. ALWAYS listen BEFORE you air a song!!)

In Reply to: What's the Hot Party Songs for this summer? posted by DJ Pondo on April 24, 19103 at 00:36:33:

: Has anybody heard what the hot party songs & line dance songs are going to be for this summer? I'm still stuck with tons of requests for "Booti Call" "Cha-Cha Slide" "Electric Slide" "Macarena" (sometimes even "The Chicken Dance") and old dances like that. I know there's got to be something new going on this year! Can anybody help me out?

Strange that I'm following up my own post. But, since I posted that question, Sam mentioned that at least one DJ was looking for "Get Your Hands Up" by Crooklyn Clan. It apparently appeared in the movie, "Save The Last Dance". And, has become popular again since the movie was released on DVD. But, it's not on either of the soundtracks. There are several versions of the song. For those of you who haven't heard it, it's basically a "Breakbeat" Track w/ a Hip-Hop/Reggae flavor. It samples Faith Evans, Outkast, Steely Dan & others. All versions are originally from 1998, and considered "out-of-print". One of my local (DC/Balto) sources told me that the Label had re-released it 3-times (unconfirmed)...And, it may be under consideration to be re-released again (also unconfirmed). Sam and I have been in contact with the Record Label (AV8) for information on future & recurrent releases on Prevue Promo. I’ll keep you advised of our progress. We're still working on it. If you need any additional info on the “Hands Up” track, feel free to email me. I'll do my best to answer any of your questions. Pondo

Snoop/Pharrell/Wilson "Beautiful" Remix?
Posted by DJ Pondo on April 22, 19103 at 12:54:44:

Has anybody seen a long remix of Snoop's "Beautiful". On the video, there is an 18-second sequence near the end of the song. It's almost like a Conga beat. Then, they go back into the song. I'd like to find an extended version of that sequence. Anybody seen anything like that on the street?
